Pardon sought for first black heavyweight champ
Even though the great Jack Johnson is no longer alive to see something like this bring back his good name, it still represents a great opportunity for President Obama to make up for a wrong that cost a good man a chance to be one of the best boxers of all time. Judging by our newfound appreciation for everyone, a pardon is definitely a nice gesture to make for a man convicted of a crime only because of the color of his skin. It is reprehensible to even think about how Johnson could have been sentenced to jail time for simply having a relationship with a Caucasian woman and there just seems to me no reason why it should not be expunged from his record. When people think of Jack Johnson they should remember how dominant he was in his boxing era and how his life was ruined solely because of an inferiority complex that Americans were smitten by. Correcting this mistake would provide Johnson and his family to put closure to a horrible chapter of his life and renew the sense of awe and appreciation for his dedication and hard work that enabled him to become great against all of the odds.
