Shadegg: Global warming cause still up in air
Being that I am from Arizona, it appears that my state is probably going to be going against the cap and trade measure if it ends up coming before Congress. I already knew that Senator Kyl was going to be one of the most vocal opponents of the bill given his status as Minority Whip, but I was unsure of how other representatives from my state would actually stand on the issue. One of the things that I feel my state is in favor of is alternative energy production and creating jobs through energy projects especially dealing with solar energy. The one question I have though is how the cap and trade proposal is going to play out in the media. What it is going to boil down to is whether or not Republicans and Democrats from coal burning states bring out the facts of expenses that each citizen will bear as the result of the bill. Professor Eismeier astutely pointed out to me that studies are going to show high and low costs associated with the bill, but simply the fact that the argument is about costs rather than global warming would be a win for Republicans because it is hard to argue whether or not we have global warming in front of the general public.
