FDA to allow Plan B birth control for 17-year-olds
President Obama is already having an impact on the issue of abortion that differs quite significantly from former President Bush. I like the fact that President Obama is open to new suggestions on how to improve the health and safety of women who become pregnant because regardless of where one stands on abortion it is very important to ensure that safety is the number one priority. I haven't seen much evidence to suggest that taking the morning after pill is much worse for 17 year olds compared to older girls, but if the court overturned Bush's directive then obviously there isn't enough evidence out there to back up the plea of it being unsafe. Unless the effects were detrimental, I do not have too much of a problem with Obama's decision to not go after an appeal of the court's decision. Although teens should be taking better precautionary measures prior to their relations if they do not think they can handle the possibility of conceiving a child, we should not be forcing them into unfavorable situations that can ultimately hurt them in the long run.
