Education Secretary Says Aid Hinges on New Data

Education Secretary Duncan is changing the way that states will receive financial aid for schools. While schools can get stimulus money now (total is $44 billion for this year), next year they will have to provide information about standardized tests, scores, data on HS graduates, and teacher evaluation systems. Secretary Duncan says that he is expecting the results to be "embarrassing". It is well known that tests are "dumbed down" and that teachers are not evaluated properly however, no one has asked for this information to be out in the open before - let alone hinge stimulus money to it. I think that it is important for this information to be public and for the education system to be changed. Too many students are failing or not receiving the proper support that they need and it is time that we change this.
