Nationals Jersey Error

The Washington Nationals are so bad and irrelevant to the rest of the nation that even MLB's athletic wear maker could not spell their name correctly on the jerseys of the two big bats in the lineup. Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn did not have the "O" in Nationals when they hit the field last week and it just makes me laugh at how bad this season has gone for the team. It is quite ironic to me that these were the two players who had the misspelled jerseys considering that without them the Nationals would have no "O" in their lineup. They have combined for half of the team's home runs and one third of the team's runs driven in. Maybe the new motto of replacing everyone who underperforms will get this team back to respectability because if not then the team is in for a long season.

You sound surprised by how bad the Nationals are they season. This is not surprising as many around baseball believed the Nationals to be the MLB's worst team. They will not gain respectability by replacing everyone on their roster three weeks into the season, but by drafting Steve Strasburg, perhaps the best pitching prospect in the draft for decades. Maybe with the help of young pitchers like Strasburg, Zimmerman, Martis and Lannan they can become a respectable team. The Nationals just do not have the talent right now. If they draft well and make good trades like the Rays did (Garza trade for Delmon Young) they can be a contender in the East. They just hired a new GM after he inherited a mess from Jim Bowden, so maybe you should give him at least an off-season to address the holes in the team.

The problem with the Nationals is that they cannot sign their draft picks and that may ultimately sway them away from Strasburg despite his once in a decade talent. Rizzo knows how to draft and has proven with Arizona that he can deliver, but unless Stan Kasten can convince Mr. Lerner that Strasburg is worth $50 million over five years with a major league contract that Boras is saying it will take to get the deal done then they are destined to continue shuffling their players until they find the right fits.

There seems to be a consensus that Strasburg will be signed and it wont be for 50 million.

You could have said the same thing about last year's first round pick Aaron Crow, but the Nationals found a way to blow that negotiation process. Strasburg has all the power on his side and regardless of how the public may dislike how he holds out for the money, Scott Boras can afford to wait for the right deal to come around because the Nationals are too desperate to fill the seats and generate some buzz.
