3 nominees confirmed for Justice posts

President Obama continues to pluck away at individuals from the Clinton team with his nominees for the Justice Department. The one new member that caught my attention was Lanny Breuer considering how he has been a part of two of the biggest cases in the last decade. I think he is one of the better attorneys in the country in terms of Congressional investigations given his knack for helping Clinton get out from impeachment despite how badly Clinton played his hand by lying to the public. However, his play of Roger Clemens has essentially cost Clemens any chance of redemption by America. It is quite obvious to me that Clemens did bring all of this heat on himself by so emphatically denying the allegations of steroid use during his playing days and he was the sole target during the latest Congressional hearing. Breuer may cost Clemens some jail time if it proves that Clemens lied during the hearing and for that he did not do his job correctly. Now it is speculative to say whether Clemens told the truth or not, but he should have just come out with the truth no matter what and suffered a brief dent to his legacy if he did use steroids rather than go the Rafael Palmeiro route. That being said Clemens masterfully played the game with Congressmen signing autographs and turning into a rock star around the Capitol and I cannot imagine that happening without Breuer's help. Letting Breuer take on lead role in the criminal division of the Justice Department is an addition that I think will serve well given he knows how to utilize Congress to his advantage and has become one of the leading attorneys in the Washington area.
