11% of Americans Think Obama is a Muslim; 19% of White Evangelicals

I almost thought this was an April Fool's joke--it's that crazy. There are differences by education level, but not terribly large. The mistaken belief cuts across incomes, races, and party lines. Interestingly, 7% of those who support Obama believe he's a Muslim, which is perhaps a step in the right direction for religoius tolerance.

Often, Americans show themselves to be rather well informed in public opinion polls. But some things are just facts.
