Senate reviewing how college football picks No. 1
In a perfect world, the best college football teams would be able to compete against one another in the big games during January. I know President Obama has gone on the record saying he wants a playoff system, but even that seems like it will be controversial if enacted. There is always going to be a team or two on the outside looking in and this is an issue I do not think the Senate needs to waste its time investigating. Yes, I would much rather see more teams have a chance at getting the big payouts from the bowls, but I don't see that really happening if the Senate tries to challenge the antitrust laws in the game. For better or worse, most Americans do not want to see or are not familiar with many of the smaller non-BCS schools and that dictates the TV scheduling that FOX currently has and ESPN will have in the next cycle. A playoff system would definitely reinvigorate the game in the short term, but is it the most viable long-term solution? That I do not know and as Jones points out all we can do is speculate on the future.
