Thanks to professor's comment, I realize that I misread yesterday's Financial Times article about GE's position in environmental protection. In yesterday's article, GE disagree with Republicans' position to overlook environmental problems and admits that climate change is real. I looked into GE's environmental history and found that General Electric had a bad history of pollution, but GE has be committed to "green" transformation since it has a new CEO Jeffrey Immelt in 2002.In the attached article, CEO Immelt explains that using clean energy helps making profits in a way that is compatible with the development of the world in the 21 century. He thinks that clean energy products will be more important in the future, and if we develop green products, there will naturally be jobs created. In addition, the green products have great potential to be goods that the U.S. exports in the future. He suggests a way to invest in the future.
I think Immelt's advocacy of clean energy is very important because he is a leading figure and has a leadership responsibility. If there are more people who the public know supporting environmental protection, the awareness of preventing environment change can be raised more easily. Additionally, there should be companies producing clean energy products, even though they are still controversial. While producing the products, companies will confront problems and try to improve the products, instead of arguing on a theoretical level. Investing in clean energy products is a real action, a step forward, and will create the possibility of improving clean energy products.
