Sanford reverses course on stimulus funds

The stimulus funding debate within the states comes to a close with Governor Sanford backing down from his hard attack against the money. I think Sanford ultimately made the right decision given the need to keep teachers in place and to offer law enforcement officers the funding they need to make the state a better place to live. Although the stimulus package wasn't perfect, it has already been passed and so rejecting the money wouldn't really have made an effective stand against the legislation. I do like that Sanford held out this long though because instead of just giving into to the government, he stood up for his beliefs despite the criticism he was feeling from the media and around the country. When we elect leaders into government, we need to expect that they will do what is best for us because they are the ones who have the information that allow them to make the informed decisions. It is easy to say that he should have accepted the funding from the beginning, but he didn't do so for a reason and one of the reasons he was elected was because his constituents trusted his judgement. Because of Sanford's actions, I see him as a person who has what it takes to stand up to others even if it the unpopular thing to do.
