Motor City looks to Final Four for economic boost

Watching the games last night demonstrated to me just how rockin the Final Four in Detroit is. I really hope that the economy in the metropolitan area is able to reap the benefits because it seemed like an amazing experience with the crowd cheering and helping guide its local team to victory. If the city can generate the $30-50 million that is being projected then it will definitely give a giant boost to the local economy. I know from when I was at the NBA all-star game in Phoenix earlier this year that many fans came from across the country to watch the games and participate in the activities. Yet, Arizona only saw about $30 million in new revenue from the game. Considering that the NBA all-star game typically generates about $80-120 million for the host city, I am a bit skeptical about how well Detroit will end up after the Final Four is over. It is obvious that the economy is causing some people to forget about making travel plans and making things even worse is that Michigan State is in the mix. From a financial standpoint that is one of the worst things that could have happened to Detroit because most of the fans in attendance are from within the state and do not need things such as hotels, rental cars, or restaurants to fulfill their needs. They can make the drive over in a quick hour and half without doing a ton for the local economy. We will see how it eventually turns out probably within the next month and hopefully my predictions are wrong because Detroit definitely needs the aid.
