Cantor's strategy: Ambush Democrats
I really like how political strategizing is making its way to the House floor. I had not really thought about it, but now it makes total sense why Republicans have been launching attacks on Democrats during debate. We have CSPAN on in the office all day long and so I am able to catch a lot of what transpires, but until reading this article it had not occurred to me that Democrat Freshman were the targets of the Republicans. I think it is a very smart move by Eric Cantor because it is very challenging for a person to be ambushed unexpectedly and to have to defend his/herself flawlessly. I find it hilarious that Democrats are holding practice sessions with their colleagues to prepare them for entering the floor for debate. I would have though every member would be well-spoken and intelligent enough to handle their own on the floor, but apparently classroom sessions are still needed. I am really looking forward to watching CSPAN now just to catch a glimpse of this strategy in action now that I am aware of it because it really does serve as a measure of promoting accountability and is a brilliant tactic if done properly like Representative Foxx did recently.
