Unemployment rate jumps to 8.5 percent
Unfortunately, the unemployment rate has risen to 8.5%. This comes at a time when politicians alike are trying to get re-elected or maintain their seats. A report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that job losses in March totaled 663,000, with the total number of unemployed increasing to 13.2 million. This is quite a large number, and many expect it to keep rising. Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the job losses are further proof of the need for the stimulus bill signed into law by President Obama earlier this year. Pelosi siad the stimulus will "save" 3.5 million jobs. Well, we shall see in the months to come.
