Rep. McMahon returning timely AIG donation

The AIG concerns have brought even more focus onto the political contributions that members of Congress received from the battered company. One of our New York Representatives Mike McMahon came out yesterday and mentioned that he is going to return his $1000 donation he received in the last campaign. I am bit mixed as to whether this was the right move or not at this point in time. McMahon clearly is using this as a way to show the public he is disgusted by the company's handling of itself and I do see the benefit of returning that money back to the company. Yet, at the same time that amount is not going to make any significant difference in the company and will not prevent anything wrong from happening in the future. Also, the timing of the decision is questionable to me because if he really was so perturbed by the company's operations he should have returned the money long ago. When you receive a donation from a company clearly they want you to push for them in office and for you to do that you should be informed about the company you are going to be representing. Yes, it is a tedious task, but in the long run it would have prevent McMahon from having to do damage control.
