Obama's safety net: the TelePrompter
Prior to reading this article, I was unaware of President Obama's need for the TelePrompter. I always considered him a great speaker and maybe I was just a bit naive to think that he wouldn't need one as much as politicians in the past. I don't necessarily see this is a huge problem, but if I was to be in the audience listening to him speak, I would not feel as confident in what he is saying if he cannot grasp the same speech he has delivered numerous times. The points pretty much remain the same in his speeches about the stimulus and for him not to know what he wants to do off the top of his head is a bit discomforting. Again, I can appreciate the fact that his speeches do sound well when seen on television, but I would like to see President Obama lessen his reliance on this as a clutch.

It does show how great his presentation and performance is if you didn't know he used a teleprompter before reading this article though.....
And who can remember a 30-60 minute speech without a prompter? I definitely couldn't.
I think it's a smart move on his part. The cameras rarely ever show the teleprompters, and honestly, who in the public cares? After 8 years of George Bush brutalizing the English language, something tell me the American people want someone who can speak competently, no matter what it takes.
Also, if you watch his speeches, Obama is very good at making off-the-cuff remarks that garner major giggles. The man is more than capable of speaking on the fly. But why take the chance?
