Congress wants to spend on itself in new bill

After seeing figures in this article about the spending that Congress hopes to provide itself over the next year, I am a bit ashamed of what is going on. It makes no sense to increase Congress' budget by 11% given the state of our economy. Refurbishing rooms and pay increases to cover the cost of inflation could be held back and done when the economy recovers. I feel like Congress is setting a bad example for the rest of America when it decides to spend like this on itself when the rest of America is struggling. How can President Obama allow such a thing to happen when his whole tax increase plan is to redistribute some of the wealth from the top? These Congressmen make a significant amount of money for their work and there really is no need to make life a bit easier on them when the $500 million they are increasing for themselves could be better used on some of the programs they hope to create with stimulus spending.
