Kansas City May Lose Chiefs, Royals to Budget Deficit

With the current budget deficits facing many states across the country, this is one of the first times that have seen potential shortages cause such a problem in the sports world. It is one thing if the team itself cannot sell itself to the pubic and generate revenue, but it is another when the state is unable to pay its share to keep the professional team around. I cannot imagine seeing the Chiefs in any other place than Kansas City and if they were to follow through on breaking their lease as a result of the loss of funds from the state then the NFL would be losing one of its original teams and causing irreparable damage to its league.

I don't understand why States and Local governments should be expected to pay ANYTHING to these teams. Why is it acceptable for taxpayer's money to go towards building new stadiums, upkeep, etc when we don't get any of the profit back? I know some people will argue the teams bring jobs to the local neighborhood, but in many instances this is not the case, and in others I ask if hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money is worth a couple hundred jobs?

I call shenanigans on this whole setup.
