Shrinking airlines park more planes in the desert

I had no idea that Arizona was such a big hangout for retired planes. It does make sense to me that many of the top airlines are trying to reduce their fleets and get rid of their old planes that are subject to problems. I always wondered what happened to planes when they no longer were serviceable to the airlines and it is interesting to me that some of them are taken apart and sold for scraps. It just gets me thinking about how the airline industry runs and how important it is to keep planes in top shape because of the crashes that have happened recently. It seems very expensive to preserve and maintain a plane and so I guess it is good that the airlines are cutting costs to save us as consumers money in the short-term. Boeing and Airbus must be really hurting with the lack of new orders for planes coming their way compared to what they had gotten in the past.
