Disney eliminates about 1,900 jobs at its domestic theme parks
I can imagine how nice it would be to get into the theme parks now that there are less people heading in each day. The tourism industry is one that has been hurt pretty hard, but it doesn't seem to get much coverage in the news. Although it wasn't the best use of taxpayer money, when AIG and other companies receiving TARP funding booked stays at hotels and company functions, they were boosting the economy by keeping people employed in the hotels and convention centers. If Disney is struggling to meet its goals and keep it staff employed through these rough times, then it says something about how badly we need growth to occur. Disney always has been a steady company that I thought had tourists galore visiting their parks everyday. I know whenever I visited Disney Land, I had to wait in long lines and was surrounded by tons of people everywhere I went. Its too bad that the company is struggling because without the proper growth and accomplishments, it does not appear there will be any new rides or attractions to generate more interest. You can only do the Its a Small World ride only so many times before it gets tiring and so hopefully they can get creative and move towards making things better for all of the fans.
