Senator Kerry to make rare Darfur visit

I like that Senator Kerry is making use of his time during the recess break in Darfur. I think it is one of the most horrible situations taking place in the world right now and for the United States to become a negotiator with Sudan might just ease some of the problems within the country. Sanctions have not worked well with Sudan in the past as the number of deaths related to political activism has risen to well over 200,000. I cannot imagine living in a country and being forced from my home solely because of who I am or what I believe. It is more than about innocent people being killed, it is about standing up for yourself and being given the proper freedoms that we value so much in this country. I do not know how successful Senator Kerry will be in his visit, but I see it as a positive step in the right direction. With the help of the new envoy to Sudan, President Obama is making Darfur an area where he sees improvement to be made and for that I can appreciate his actions.
