Quigley claims victory in race to replace Rahm Emanuel

I see this victory for the Democrats as potentially a key ally in the House of Representatives. They have to be pleased by how well Quigley did in garnering votes especially given how poorly the voter turnout was during the primary race. I know that whomever the Democrats put up probably would have won this seat, but now that they have Quigley gives them another vote that they can pretty much count on for all situations. The lobbying efforts of Emanuel and the Obama administration have been put in full force with things like the budget and whatever next key vote comes around I am sure it will continue to be done in a similar manner. The one area where I see Quigley can improve is in his relationship with labor unions. I know the Obama administration is hesitant to move forward with the card check bill and for that I am pleased, but Quigley does represent a district that has a lot of working class citizens and he may be able to even improve his margin of victory if he at least goes on the record of being in favor of such a measure. Though his vote doesn't really matter in the real scope of things, his stances on issues may just be enough to provide more support for the Obama administration.

Quigley represents the Chicago's North side. His district is pretty wealthy and mostly white. Labor unions are not a huge concern for Quigley.

On past issues, he's also proven to be a reformer and opposed taxes and wasteful spending. While I think he'll make a great Congressman, his views are not completely in line with the Obama Administration.
