Obama’s Spending Spurs Former U.S. Lawmakers to Join Lobbyists
The lobbying game just keeps getting bigger and better these days. I can see why lobbying firms would want to go after former Congressmen because of their insight and connections with regards in the political arena. If I was a client, I would want someone like Jim McCrery serving my interests because he was one of the top Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee. You cannot get better expertise from someone out of the game than someone with experience. There is so much money to be had right now with President Obama's decisions to tackle the economy, health care, and the environment and with the right sway that money could be headed towards companies that desperately want those valuable government contracts. The one problem I see with hiring people from the opposition party is that they probably will not be heard as much as those in line with the Democrats. Like Birch stated when we met with him, you can be well recognized and respected among your peers, but unless you are in line with the President, you probably will get stuck talking to one of his aides and not have much to do with the appropriations process. Either way though, I still see the value in having Congressmen take over these jobs because in the end they have the connections that one can only hope to buy.
