Congressional Panel Opens Ethics Inquiry Into Rep. Jackson
I like that Congress is now finally getting into the Blago situation with their investigation into the criminal bribery that was offered to him for his power of granting the open Senate seat. From the tapes that have been released, I see it is pretty evident that Jesse Jackson Jr. tried to buy the seat from Blago with the inducement of campaign cash. I would guess that almost all of the top candidates that were talked about had done something in similar vein even if we do not necessarily have the evidence to prove it. But what it all comes down to is the Blago had the power under the law to choose Obama's replacement and it would make sense to try and get the most out of the situation as you possibly can without breaking the law. Now, Blago wasn't smart enough to do it quietly, but I believe pretty much all of the appointed Senators will be contributing something back to the governor who appointed them whether it be in appearances, fundraisers, or even donating cash for their reelection prospects. I know I would feel indebted to a governor if they chose me for the special honor and I probably wouldn't hesitate to give back in any way possible. Now that the investigations have begun we will finally get to learn the true story of Blago and how the process of giving back may ultimately ruin the political careers of politicians.
