Obama to order $100 million in cuts

Although I appreciate the effort that President Obama is trying to make in saving some money in his budget plans, it is not to the level that I think is necessary to make the impact he is making it seem like it will have. Our interest payments for the stimulus package are going to be costing a significant amount and this $100 million is chump change in the scope of things. Cancelling conferences, combining offices, and buying supplies in bulk are things that should have been done a long time ago and it just goes to show that not everything the government does is most efficient. I understand the enormous challenges of running the government and the large scope of it cannot allow us to achieve total efficiency. However, I think we need to be looking at things like buying office supplies in bulk in all areas of the government. It just makes sense to plan ahead for the future and to get the most out of every dollar spent because taxpayers work hard to earn their money and if taxes are going to be used to help the government run, people should be assured that it is done in the best way for everyone involved. I know it is nit picky to look at a small case like this, but it just illustrates how no matter how hard you try there are always instances for improvement and I am glad that we are looking towards these things now.
