In Boost for Detroit, Obama to Buy Fuel-Efficient Fleet for Uncle Sam
I like the move that President Obama is making to transform the government vehicles into more fuel efficient cars. Not only are we able to help out some of the struggling automakers with such a large order, but we also will be saving money in the amount spent on oil and gas to supply the cars with power. Obviously, 17,500 cars are not going to transform the auto companies back into prosperity overnight and maybe we are just delaying the inevitable with bankruptcy, but it cannot hurt us to go after more environmentally friendly vehicles to replace our old ones. It is important to reduce our dependence on foreign countries for oil and move back into prosperity by developing our own technology and industries capable of supporting our needs. Whether or not we like it, Detroit is really struggling right now and since we have aided the big companies so much, we need to ensure that they have the time needed to restructure and bring themselves back into the field with new plans and opportunities. Letting the CEO of GM go is not something I believe President Obama had the right to do, but now that it is done we can finally look towards the future and the change that President Obama promised during his campaign.
