Henry Waxman Has a Plan . . .

Just looking at the bill being proposed, I can see the cap and trade problem is very complex. The basic premise that I see missing is how we are actually going to be capping and charging carbon producers and how it will eventually be spent. These are very important components that I believe should be in place before we even consider such a bill. Furthermore, the bill sets out way too many environmental regulations that I do not see we can actually achieve or meet by 2025. Demanding that we utilize solar, wind, geothermal, or biomass as sources of energy is not a productive use of our time. Who is to say that we cannot come up with a better source of energy in the mean time? We would be shut out from using any new source if this bill draft were to be enacted as it reads. Setting the proper standards and guidelines for our everyday activities is fine if it allows for flexibility. Businesses and homeowners are going to have to change basically everything that uses energy or electricity to meet the standards being proposed and that is going to be a huge financial undertaking. I have a hard time believing businesses are going to stand pat for much longer because if they do then a bill like this could end up costing them millions of dollars and ultimately will come back to us in higher costs for services and products.
