Gillibrand racks in the fundraising dough
I was amazed by the numbers that Gilibrand put up in her first two months in office. To have $2.3 million already in the bank is quite a haul for a candidate whom many people do not know or have an opinion on. It looks like she is going to have to step up her campaign efforts significantly though if she wants to win the seat on a full-time basis. The way to accomplish that is by giving New York residents a picture of who she is and what she stands for. I see it as a bit tricky for her given that she had to be a bit more conservative to win her original spot in the House of Representatives and it appears to me that she still feels a bit indebted to her constituents with her political agenda. One of the advantages she has right now is her ability to work the system of incumbency with mass mailings, meetings with constituents from across the state, and grassroot support from lobbing groups like MoveOn. Time will tell whether or not she can utilize these things to her benefit, but I would expect her to mobilize her forces within the next few months because it will be quite a battle for the Senate spot.
