Franken owes over $1.3 million for recount
After talking with Marc Elias on Wednesday I was curious as to how much all of the trial and recount fees would be costing both Al Franken and Norm Coleman. It does not surprise me to see that both candidates spent around $6 million in court so far and are aiming for another $2-3 million to cover the cost of the appeals process. It just goes to show much money this Senate seat is really worth because with figures like these both candidates could have done a lot more than battle one another to represent Minnesota. The article actually references Elias, which I thought was pretty cool given our recent visit and not surprisingly his law firm seeks to gain the most out of any prolonged court battle. On top of what his firm has already been paid, Elias is raking in another $1 million in debt yet to be paid by the Franken campaign. Although Elias himself is not seeing the total benefits of this since he is a partner in the firm, he still will be seeing his percentage at the very least remain where it is due to his victory and standing with the Democratic Party. It seems like he has entrenched himself with the Party and they trust him as the guy to go in and resolve any differences. That sounds like a cool job to me!
