Bipartisan bonding over bagels and schmear

After all of the talk last night about the polarization of the members of Congress, we may be seeing a change of direction towards a more bipartisan relationship. It is interesting that Republicans and Democrats are viewing the gathering of both parities together during breakfast, dinners, and weekends as the way to decrease the hostility levels boiling up in the Senate right now. I am not too sure that the party leaders will go along with this proposal because I can only imagine Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell sitting down together and chit chatting about the Washington Nationals losing streak during a breakfast one morning. That just doesn't seem possible to me and I do not really think we as taxpayers should have to fund potential meetings solely because the parties cannot get along on their own. Bipartisanship is something that probably brings compromise to the table and may be better for the bills being passed, but it is not like sharing bagels or tickets to a Capitols game is really going to make a difference. Republicans have to be very strategic in how they go about the next election and if they become too cozy with Democrats, then there is less of a chance for them to see gains in either body of Congress.
