Steelers owner is Ireland nominee
Fittingly on St. Patrick's Day, President Obama named his nomination for the ambassador of Ireland and it is a very familiar name for sports fans. I was very surprised by the decision to name Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney as the person for the job given his lack of political experience and long-standing zeal for the Republican Party. He did throw his support in for President Obama during the race, but does giving money to charity to fight against violence in the country give him the experience he needs to keep our relations with Ireland in good terms? He is very appreciated among his peers and I trust in his ability to do right by both countries and to continue his desire to promote education and peace in Ireland.
