Obama Says He Can Ignore Some Parts of Spending Bill

Obama is following in President Bush's footsteps in one way at least--his use of signing statements to express his opinions about legislation he signs. So far, he has only demonstrated a desire to adhere strictly to the president's defined constitutional rights; however, it is clear that President Bush has left a legacy of expanded power for the executive branch, and I can see signing statements continuing to play an important role in establishing presidential legacies.
