Green organizations, business groups, see gray area on Salazar
I can see how environmentalists would have a gripe to catch with new Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar with his decision to go along with President Bush's plan to remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species List. Living in an area near where these wolves mostly are found, I have seen the animals in person and can attest to the desire to see them kept alive and thriving in the wild. Yet, if under there is evidence that they no longer need such stringent protection as deemed by Salazar there really does not seem to be much anyone can do. Yes, suing in court, staging protests, and airing advertisements may shift public opinion, but ultimately I feel little will be gained in getting the animal back under protection. At the same time, environmentalists have to be pleased with some of the things Salazar has done for them in regards to fulfilling some of the Obama administration's desire to develop alternative energy sources and reducing our dependence on foreign oil. There are always going to be gripes to catch within the government, but some times we need to acknowledge some of the things the government is doing right so that those things continue and rather than staging a spin of strict negativity, maybe going to the negotiating table with an appreciation and compromising attitude may be more effective.
