GOP in Ohio narrowing gap but still trailing
The race for the seat of retiring GOP Senator Voinovich is now much closer than originally thought. Although Democrats thought they had built a strong lead in Ohio, it is looking more like Republicans may actually serve as a challenge to Democrats. President Obama's public approval ratings in Ohio have decreased significantly and Republicans have a great chance to keep their spot with a well-run campaign. The leading candidate Rob Portman is a bit of an unknown and so the more acclimated he becomes in the state, the more he should see his popularity rise. With a two week time frame he has turned believers in almost 16% of the people polled by Quinnipiac University and if he can do that so quickly then he might be able to do the same thing during the primary season when his spot as top GOP candidate comes into question.
