Detroiters glad that Bing, Cockrel open up

One of the more interesting races that isn't getting a lot of news coverage is the one for mayor of Detroit. I think Dave Bing would be an excellent choice for the city given his strong history with it during the prospering times when he was on those great Piston teams and his ability to translate his athletic ability into strong fundamental business success. Detroit is one of the more flailing cities in the country with its poor education system, struggling auto industry, and high crime rates. With those things in mind there is little incentive for anyone to move or live in the area if they can help it. The next mayor is going to have their hands full with trying to curb some of these problems and it definitely will require a lot of hard work and experimental actions to get this city back on track. The battle between Bing and the current mayor should be good for the city because it lay the issues out on the table and allow each candidate to open up as to what their plans will be in restoring Detroit.
