Can Meg Whitman save California?

This is an interesting article about former CEO of eBay, Meg Whitman, who intends on running for the governor of California. I think she would be an excellent choice for the Republican Party given her strong background in business. One of the main problems with California right now is that its companies are not generating the same economic impact that they need to in order to make the state strong. She knows how to balance a budget and would be able to get rid of some of the wasteful spending that the state is enduring. The only problem that I see for her is her lack of knowledge about the education system. California is struggling to pay its teachers and the schools around the state have seen a cutback in funding. If her past says anything about her future, it seems like she will move the state towards a merit-pay system where schools receive more money for good results on test scores and those that fail will be left barren. Her meetings with President Bush seem to reinforce the notion that she would be in favor of the NCLB plan and at this point I am not so sure that is the best option for the state.
