Californication

This Economist article talks about the rise in the number of Californians that are now on Capitol Hill. Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman, George Miller, and Jane Harman are all from California and are finding it much easier to promote their agendas now that a democratic president is in office. Their agenda is different from the republicans, with a "pro-green and pro-union, anti-business and anti-war" mindset. That being said (and while I do hold much pride for my home state) I do agree that this could be risky to a certain degree. It is true that we Californians are a tad liberal (a sentiment often not shared by other parts of the country), and that the state has the highest unemployment rate in the country along with massive debt and a housing crisis. I don't know whether we should fix our own problems back in California first before venturing to Capitol Hill or whether California's presence there will help these problems be solved faster....
