Ted Kennedy throws out the first pitch
Opening Day has come and gone for Red Sox nation, but despite the victory against the defending AL champions, the game was important for a different reason. It was very nice to see Ted Kennedy at the ballpark showing off his arm despite his hard battle with cancer. The symbolic gesture of throwing to the newest member of the Hall of Fame Jim Rice was something special is something that I think will hold up similar to the first pitch Ted Williams threw out during the All-Star game at Fenway Park. It is so sad to see such a beloved figure in the final stage of his life, but he is illustrating the power of the old adage that you should see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Kennedy is serving as a role model to everyone that even in times of dire health, you cannot let yourself be consumed by your illness. You should live life to the fullest because you never know when your last moment may occur. Even though Kennedy didn't make a great throw to Rice, I was proud of him for getting out on the field and giving his constituents a chance to give him a last hurrah before he ends up passing away. It was a very nice thing for the Red Sox to do and I am appreciative of the fact that the occasion turned out so well.
