Sen. Bennet gets first GOP challenger
Republicans are finally putting together their efforts for the Senate seat race in Colorado in 2010. I was surprised to see a lack of effort being taken by the GOP until now because even though they probably will lose, it is a great opportunity to steal some thunder away from Democrats if they do happen to win. A candidate like Ryan Frazier seems to be in the mold of Michael Steele's attempt to broaden the target audience of the Republican Party. Having gone to Harvard and serving as an economic strategic member of a local city council, Frazier has what it takes to appeal to African Americans and young voters. From what I have seen about Frazier, he seems like the perfect candidate to put up against Senator Michael Bennet who was a surprise choice to begin with. Frazier knows how to speak to an audience with eloquence and has the conviction in his voice to stand up for what he believes in. It also helps that he comes from a largely conservative district that may just turn out and vote for him if he ends up winning the GOP primary. Capturing the base is only the first step, but it is definitely a step that has to be taken in order for Colorado to lean towards a Republican.
