Rep. Gerlach gets his first Dem challenger

One of the more intriguing races for Democrats in the next election will be in southeast Pennsylvania where Republican Jim Gerlach is going to be facing probably his biggest challenge up to date. The district is one in which Democrats have trumped Republicans in voting with recent presidential elections and if run properly they could do it again in the Congressional race. I am fascinated by Democrat Doug Pike's entrance into the picture because of his unique work history. Not only does he have the experience of working with a Senator, but he also has the media background from serving on the editorial board of the Philadelphia Inquirer. I like the message he has been spouting out about the need to hear citizens' voices and to truly represent them because in the end it is our interests that need to be looked out for by our representatives. However, at the same time I haven't heard any new ideas from him as to how he wants to accomplish this task. It makes sense to go after the Republicans for their no votes, but if you do not have an effective plan or means to back up your comments then it is best to withhold them until a later time. At this point I would still be in favor of keeping Gerlach around given his expertise and history with the district, and so Pike really needs to start putting out his platform if he wants to win over any votes.
