Obama Chia Pet pulled from stores

Racist or just a family-friendly plant?

Why is this considered racist? Anyone with half a brain can see that the Chiapet comapny is simply trying to cash in on the most popular man in the world right now. That's not racist, it's good business.

Racism is in the eye of the beholder. Witness use of Jon Stewart image for Mexican Party.

Some background information: Walgreens has ordered removal of the "Chia Obama" from its stores in Tampa and Chicago, saying the ceramic-plant figure of the chief executive is inappropriate for sale because customers have called in and found the object "racist."

Personally, I agree with you and find nothing wrong with an Obama Chia Pet. When the Obama craze has created commemorative plates and coins, I'm not suprised that companies are still using Obama's popularity to market their products. Walgreens, however, has full discretion to sell, or not sell, any item. They might not want to deal with a potentially racial controversy.
