Gingrich: Diplomacy to stop N. Korea a 'fantasy'
One of the things that President Obama has stated recently that I like is his decision to try and curb the use of nuclear weapons. I am not a big fan of them given the utter destruction that they can cause and how many innocent bystanders feel the effects of the explosion as well as the initial targets. That is why I think it is a good idea for President Obama to move forward with his plan to ban these weapons from being created or used with the help of the United Nations. I know that North Korea did not give into the pleas of the U.S. or Japan prior to their launch that failed, but I still see an opportunity if given the right incentives/sanctions where we could put an end to North Korea's desire to build up its arsenal. The more time we waste worrying about what North Korea is going to do hurts our ability to concentrate on the overarching theme of protecting the country's national security interests. If we are going to stop terrorism from inflicting itself on our country, we need to limit the number of weapons that they can grab a hold of and make it more difficult to forge an attack. I hope Gingrich is wrong in his statements because if not we might just have to do something militarily to put an end to North Korea's military operations.
