Five Hot Spots in Congress's Upcoming Climate Change Debate

I am a bit mixed on the issue of cap and trade as it is currently being proposed. I definitely see the value in reducing the carbon emissions that many of our nations' companies and buildings let out during their normal business hours. If we are to see some of the environment's benefits in the future, we need to begin planning towards an effective plan. I know that some of the biggest companies that stand to lose if this bill is enacted are the oil and coal businesses, which may not necessarily be so bad if we are able to move towards alternative energy sources that are cost-efficient and just as productive. However, I see the alternative energy sources as taking a long time to put together and do we want to be putting people out of jobs in the manufacturing industry with the state of the economy the way it is. Additionally, how do we know which way to proceed with the cap and trade bill? Should we be putting up all the emission grants in an auction, giving them away, or how much should we be charging for a permit? These are all questions that really have not been addressed and until they are I think it is a bit premature to decide whether or not we should move forward with the measure.
