Burr told constituents not to mob ATMs

Even though I like Richard Burr and think he is a great guy, I think he made a mistake with his decision to run to the bank and clear out his accounts due to his fear of Wachovia collapsing. One of the things that makes a Senator so important is that they have the courage and strength to lead us through tough times with the calmness and intelligence to ride out the storm. Burr should not have done one thing, while telling his constituents another. That just represents pure hypocrisy and makes him look like a guy who doesn't even believe in what he says or for that matter himself as a leader. While it does not appear to me that he used insider information to clear his account, it does seem a bit shady from a guy who is looking for all the money he can now with his reelection campaign coming up in 2010. He knew that Congress was looking into the banking crisis and he should have understood the importance of appearing like an everyday citizen rather than a greedy one. Taking a hit wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world given that he could have acutally used it in his campaign speeches to relate to his fellow North Carolinans hit hard by the banking industry failure. He needs to restore his self-confidence and look to give constituents a reason to believe in him once again.
