Automakers Agree on Common Plug to Recharge Electric Vehicles

This is a huge step forward in establishing electric vehicles as viable alternatives to gasoline. Now all we need is an infrastructure and electric cars!

Oh and BTW, this effort was spearheaded by General Motors, the supposedly inept car company and enemy of innovation.

Coal serves as a fuel source for about half all power generation in the US. Aren't we just trading oil for coal in this sense?

In the short term yes. But we can install renewable sources of electricity to displace coal in the long term, and at the very least, we would be replacing foreign oil with domestic coal in the short term.
