White House rejects request to use stimulus to pay off state debt

It appears that we will not be heading back to the Hamiltonian idea of paying off debts that the nation's states have acquired. Despite the great reluctance of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford to use stimulus money as it is appropriated, I think it is interesting that he is coming up with different ideas to spend the money that would help the state, but not in the manner of creating jobs or creation of new programs. At least he is standing up for his beliefs against the potential benefits that can be gained through the stimulus package. Unlike some of his fellow Republicans who also do not like the allocation of some of the money their states will be receiving, Sanford has gone out and made himself into a leader for the Republican governors in America.
