Aid Critical to Public Preschool Plan

The state of NJ is trying to expand it's public preschool program, with the new law requring every district to provide all day care for low income 3 and 4 year olds by this upcoming fall. Since the plan is estimated to cost around $50-$60 million, NJ is not sure they can afford it and are banking on federal aid to help put the plan in motion. The programs would include a specific curriculum, teachers, and no more than 15 children per class. So far only 31 districts are required to have preschool programs and this law would expand that requirement to about 500 districts.
