What the Occupy protests tell us about the limits of democracy

This is a good point. The Occupiers I see in Washington seem far removed from society and wholly unwilling to engage with democratic institutions. Yet 37% of Americans still support the movement (with New Yorkers supporting by a 3-1 margin); is it because they sympathize with the cause or, as Representative Hanna said, 'at least they believe in something'?
