Will NYT latest pay for news plan work?

I read this article earlier today. James Taranto drives me crazy. His articles get emailed to me at work. Doesn't he have anything else to talk about besides nitpicking what the NYT and its opinion writers do on a daily basis? It seems that Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd, and Bob Herbert can usually find other things to write about. Plus, the WSJ has a subscription service too, and we can read WSJ articles by googling them. I'm not sure what his problem is with the NYT's new plan, besides the fact that its the New York Times and he always has a problem with them.
