According to the Mercatus Center, federal regulation analyses are typically very poor. Federal agencies make regulations hastily without naming the problems they are aiming to fix or doing cost benefit analyses. Mercatus is funded in part by the EVIL Koch brothers (gasp!) so I know we can't trust any of their research, but they found that regulatory analysis was very poor during both the Bush and Obama Administrations.
Calm down Megan. I never reject analyses out-of-hand just because of their source. I just prefer people disclose any ideological prediliciton of the sources they cite. That's why I always reference whether a group is liberal or conservative.
Don't worry Patrick, I wasn't referring to you. I watched a hearing with some Mercatus witnesses and the Koch brothers were mentioned by Democrats like 86 times. The funding was attacked not the actual research, which I found annoying.
