The Dirty Energy Party

Not trying to get into any argument about climate change, just alternative energy development. This NYT editorial talks about some of the things the House GOP voted to cut in their CR, namely hundreds of millions of dollars in renewable energy subsidies and R & D. It's astounding to me that the GOP wants to cut support for a nascent industry that is struggling, rather than cut billions of dollars in outdated and unnecessary fossil fuel subsidies. I know we are all pretty much on the same page on this, but I just thought it added something to our previous energy/environment debate.

That article also adds to this debate, but I don't think one instance of waste should sully the reputation of an entire industry.

So because there is evidence of waste and not necessarily a silver bullet solution for renewable energy, we should totally give up, remove all subsidies for clean energy, keep oil subsidies in place, and drill, baby, drill? I was under the impression at the end of our last blog discussion that you supported R & D for clean energy, and removing all energy subsidies. My point was that Republicans don't even support R & D or efficiency anymore (under the pretense that they don't want to "pick winners and losers"), but still wholeheartedly support fossil fuel subsidies.
